Why would companies use electric motors and batteries with a gas powered "back-up" engine, or "synergy Drive", which still uses a good bit of gas, in most cases only about a 30% increase in MPG, instead of using a more powerful set of electric motors couple with a small, lets say 1.0 liter 4 cylinder engine, to keep the battery charged only? Doesn't this make ore sense to people? have an electric car that you don't have to plug in, ever, with a gas engine that would keep the battery charged and get( probably) around 100/150 MPGs they could even use and smaller, 2 stroke engine to charge the battery!!!
